#8. How to Protect Your Energy Before and After Holding Space

Script

Hey there, beautiful souls. Hope you're doing well and taking care of your energy.

Okay. Have you ever worked closely with another person—or even had a deep or emotional conversation with someone—and felt incredibly drained afterward?

Today we're going to talk about protecting your energy. If you are an intuitive healer, a wellness coach, yoga teacher, or anyone who works closely with people and their energy, you should be protecting your own energy. Your energy is sacred and needs to be protected, especially as space-holders.

I'm going to share three of my top practices that I use consistently to stay clear, grounded, and energetically whole before and after I hold space for someone—and how you can adapt them to your unique path. These are practices anyone can do.

Now, before we move into the three practices, I wanna go over with you why protecting your energy is essential.

First, what does it mean to hold space? There are many ways that you might do this. How does this look for you?

Are you a yoga teacher holding space for all of your students? Or are you an energy healer or wellness coach holding space for your client? Or maybe you just had an emotional heart-to-heart with a friend, and there were tears and hugging. No matter how you're holding space for someone, you need to know how to protect your energy before and after the encounter.

And this is especially important for people who are highly sensitive or who consider themselves empaths. If you're not clearing and protecting your energy, you might feel drained, heavy, foggy, irritable, or just ungrounded.

It's not about fear—it's about tending your own light so it can burn steadily for others.

The first step to protecting your energy is grounding.

If you know you're going to be walking into an energetically tense situation, or just something that will take a lot of energy, make sure you ground.

I don't know how many times I've already preached this, but this is so incredibly vital.

Here are some simple ways you can ground:

One: Taking deep, slow breaths, and on each exhale, envision a magnet pulling through your crown, down through your body, and all the way through to the earth.

Two: You can walk barefoot outside.

Three: You can splash your hands or face with cold water.

Four: You can use a foot spa. I personally really love the heated ones with little bubbles. You can put some lavender oil in there, some eucalyptus oil, some tea tree oil—whatever kind of oil you really love and maybe helps you relax or just reinvigorates you—and I promise, you will fall so deeply into your body. It's absolutely amazing.

And I want you to really reflect before we move on: What brings you back to yourself before stepping into sacred work?

A simple affirmation you can use is: I am rooted, clear, and ready to serve with intention.

Okay, step two: Shielding your energy.

So when you're in a situation where you feel like you need to boost your energetic shield, there are a few ways you can do this. And remember, shielding is not about blocking others per se, but more about maintaining your inner strength.

Some quick ways you can do this are:

One: Visualize a white veil or cocoon wrapped around you. Sometimes, if I feel like I need heavy-duty, I envision black tourmaline or onyx stone wrapped around me.

Two: You can call in a deity, an angel, or your ancestors. Whoever your Otherworld helpers are, call them in.

Three: You can wear a protective amulet or stone. Some good stones for shielding negative energy are pretty much any of your black stones—black onyx, black tourmaline. Smoky quartz is a great one.

But really, as you're picking out your stone, whatever feels like it has a protective energy—just go with that. Don't worry about what the books say or what the blogs say. If it feels like it has a protective spirit, that's the one for you.

And I really encourage you to create something personal to you. What does protection feel like in your body? Is it a heavy cloak, or a shimmering veil? Or maybe it's a circle of fire. You get to choose.

What resonates with your spirit? Be creative.

And finally, step three: Clearing your energy.

So, what do you do after a stressful or draining situation?

Well, you clear that shit out. Clear all the junk out of your auric fields and release it.

So how do you do that?

Here are some quick and easy ways:

One: You can sage your entire body and space. That means your head, your underarms, the bottoms of your feet. Twirl around in that smoky goodness.

Two: If you are a Reiki healer and you’re familiar with the Hatsu Rei Ho—also known as dry brushing—brush it off, wipe it off, and then flick it out into the ether. Let the universe take it and transmute it.

Three: Take a spiritual herbal bath. These are absolutely divine and can make you feel like you've been reborn if done well. If I'm feeling extra gunky, I will boil herbs like sage, rosemary, thyme, yarrow, or peppermint.

Now, I know there are many different kinds of herbs for this depending on your spiritual practices. These are the most basic and safe ones, and most people have them in their house already.

Then, when they’re done boiling, I'll strain out the debris and pour the water into the tub.

And finally, I'll pour as many kinds of salt as I have on hand into the tub, and I will bathe for as long as the water stays hot.

While you're in the tub, you'll want to completely submerge yourself if you can, or pour water over your head. Imagine all of the gray and dark energy leaking out of you into the water and the air.

When you get out of the tub, air dry for as long as you can.

Four: One of my favorite things to do if I don't have time to do anything like a bath or I'm out and about—I will go up and just touch a tree. I will ask it to please take any negative energy from me and clear my energy fields.

Trees are our friends—and yes, they want to help. So go ask them for help. You might look a little crazy. It's okay. Just sit in the comfort of feeling crazy. I promise, it's good.

Five: You can also cleanse with sound. Whether this is a class that you go to where someone plays a sound bath for you, or you're just in your house playing loud music as you prance around in free-spirited movements—it doesn't matter. It's clearing it out.

And six: Finally, you can do a cord-cutting meditation. You can get my cord-cutting ritual in my show notes. I'll be sure to link it there.

Doing things like this is so important. Just like we wash our hands, we need to cleanse our field. If you're not familiar with doing things like this or you aren't consistent with it, I promise, if you do any of the above for a week straight and really pay attention to how your energy is changing, you will notice a shift.

And just remember: You don’t have to hold what isn’t yours. That means guilt, shame, grief, and anger. If someone projected this onto you and you're feeling it in your bones, it's going to be okay. Just release it and remind yourself: This isn't mine. I can let it go.

And then you can break out into Frozen’s “Let It Go” song if that suits your fancy. It’s completely up to you.

Alright. As I wrap up today's episode, my final advice is this:
