Why do we burn incense? Where did the sacred offering originate from?

Before we worshiped gods and land spirits, we honored our ancestors. We gave them offerings of wine, water, and plants.

Through ceremony, we stayed connected to our ancestors. This allowed us to access deeper healing within ourselves, spiritual guidance and protection.

There is a quiet wisdom that lives within us—carried in the breath, the bones, the stories, and the silence. In this workshop, we’ll gently open space to honor the ancestors who walked before us, whether they are known or unknown, loved or complicated. Through ritual, guided meditation, journaling, and a simple offering ceremony, you’ll be guided into a grounded and respectful introduction to ancestor veneration—one rooted in gratitude, remembrance, and care. 

Join us at Moon Bird this Sunday for tending the ancestral flame through gentle movement. Guided meditation and ritual will open space to honor those who walked before us.

You'll be guided in different ways to connect with your own lineage in a way that feels safe and intuitive.

No prior experience is needed, only an open heart and a willingness to listen. This is an invitation to tend the ancestral flame, to remember where you come from, and to create a sacred moment of connection in an environment of safety, warmth, and love.

You can bring a meaningful ancestral item to be blessed and charged on the altar. You will take this home with you.

If there is a specific loved one you’d like to connect with this evening and you know they love a certain perfume, brandy, candy, incense, or anything else that you could use as an offering, you may bring that as well. The offering will be left behind and it’s best if it’s biodegradable.
