Step 1: Gather your materials
Before you begin, take a moment to gather everything you’ll need so you can move through the ritual without interruption.

You’ll need:

  • Three sunflower seeds

  • Three cloves

  • A yellow, orange, and dark burgundy candle (tea lights or votives work fine). If you don’t have these on hand, you can also use one white or black candle.

  • Orange oil (or simply the zest or oil from a fresh orange peel)

  • Incense of your choice — sandalwood, frankincense, or myrrh are beautiful options but you choose what scents help put you in a magickal state

And finally, think about where you’ll be planting your seeds. You can bury them directly in the ground—perhaps in your garden or a favorite outdoor spot—or you can prepare a flower pot with soil to keep on your porch or windowsill. Either way, choose a place that feels special, where the seeds can truly hold your intention.

Step 2: Create your sacred space
Find a quiet place where you can set up safely. Make sure that if you’re using candles, they’re placed somewhere stable and fire-safe.

Step 3: Cleanse and prepare
Burn your cleansing herbs of choice. Light your incense and candles. Sit comfortably or stand. You can stand on the earth, sit in a chair, or sit on the earth. I prefer to sit down on the ground but you decide what’s best for you.

Take a few deep breaths and ground into your energy. With each exhale fall deeper into your soul and allow your energy field to expand.

Visualize a white light at the crown of your head expanding. Let clean energy from the heavens come down into your crown, through your body. As it streams through, envision it taking with it any dark negative energy with it. It flows through your body, your limbs, all the way down through your root or feet, into the ground. Let the earth take your burdens and the heavens refill your body with new, fresh energy. Do this as long as you need to, until you feel clear, expansive, glowing, and vibrant.

Step 4: Bless the seeds
Now, take your three sunflower seeds. Squeeze a little orange oil onto them—or rub them gently with the zest of your orange peel. Hold the seeds to your chest and close your eyes. Envision yourself already living in the reality you’re calling in. See it. Feel it. Breathe it in as if it’s already here. Remembering that you deserve this, it is already yours.

When you feel complete with this part of the ritual, whisper into the seeds what you desire to attract into your life. Let them hear your dreams, your prayers, your visions. Thank the spirit of sunflower for helping you.

Step 5: Plant your intentions
Bury the seeds in your chosen spot, placing the three cloves on top of them. The cloves will protect and amplify your vision. Be sure to thank the spirit of clove for helping you. Whether you’ve chosen a garden patch, a beloved corner of the earth, or a flower pot, cover the seeds gently with soil. As you do, know that you’re planting both intention and possibility into the earth. And you might even get some sunflowers next year.

Step 6: Close the ritual
Take a final breath of gratitude. Thank the earth, the season, and the eclipse energy for holding you. Let your candles burn a little longer if it feels safe, or gently extinguish them when you’re ready. Do not blow them out. It is believed that if you blow out your ritual candles, it’s blowing away all of your intentions. So, if you need to put them out, extinguish them with a metal candle snuffer or with your finger.

Carry the knowing that your seeds—both physical and spiritual—are now planted.
